So as with all things gaming and gaming adjacent we as GM’s are not perfect. I know it is shocking, but we make mistakes as well. Those mistakes could be in remembering the lore of a setting you are running a game in or messing up how a part of the game is done mechanics wise. We all make mistakes and we are going to let you in on how we have dealt with those sorts of things in our games. So let’s see how we can help you when you flub as a GM.
What is a way each of us has messed something up? Try to keep this part to a short tale. 2-3 minutes tops here.
Guard-a-Manger: What Do You Mean, “Make a Mistake?” Seriously, though, mistakes are more easily handled when you don’t treat them as mistakes but part of the carefully laid out plan.
What’s one of these examples? Magic in fantasy games often comes with limitations, restrictions, and strictures. Many games even restrict magic spells for certain characters through spell lists or the like. What do you do when you have an NPC, opponent, bad guy, hero-of-their-own-story use a spell against the party that isn’t on their list? Okay, look, I have a magic-user use Harm in a Basic D & D game. How did the magic user get a clerical spell?
Guess what the first major extraplanar quest became for this group of adventurers? Finding out that there were some other classes based on some Immortal level weirdness and dimensional jousting going on.
And what would we do in each situation.
Recap so see as you have seen we all make mistakes and as a GM you will need to learn to roll with the punches sometimes. Because this is a thing that happens in any and all games at some point.
